:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Please Ask Me I was very shocked recently upon seeing a not-so-nice Chinese character translated into "Brilliant" that is used in a stamp from "Tin Can Mail" of Inkadinkado. I am a fan of "Tin Can Mail" stamps for a long time, but this stamp really upset me. Although I often found that many Chinese characters were used inappropriately, this one is definitely a joke.
The Chinese character used in this "Brilliant" stamp is not just inappropriate, its meaning is actually "the worst among the bad". Occasionally younger Chinese generation might use this character verbally to joke around and to exaggerate someone's brilliant works or performance, but definitely not in writing or print matter at all. Hence I must say using this character as "Brilliant" in stamp is absolutely wrong.
I am here not to criticize other company's stamps, I simply don't want to see my customers unknowingly embarrass themselves. This is one of the reasons I started my stamp design studio. Chinese is not only my native language but I am also a published author in Taiwan. Besides choosing the most appropriate Chinese characters to use in my stamps, I consult English teachers and copywriters to refine their English translations as well. Chinese language is very complicated and hardly can be to translated perfectly, but you can be sure that Seesaw Graphics' Chinese character stamps are sincere and appropriate.
I am here because I want to help. I love to give out my advice if you have any doubt using any Chinese character stamp from any company. Please ask me.
Sincerely Yours, Shao Wang Seesaw Graphics |
